The Toyota Avalon is the flagship sedan of the brand.  It sits above the Camry and has always offered a high level of comfort and value but has lacked excitement.  The overall goal of this redesign is to raise the level of sophistication and sportiness while retaining the elegance that the previous generation achieved.

I was member of the Avalon design team as a Senior Designer.  We created a series of different advanced proposals that lead to the production design of the 2013 model year Avalon.

Concept, Theme, & Early Sketches

The concept of this project was to redefine the idea of a flagship sedan for Toyota.  How do we bring a new sense of style and bold design to this class of car for Toyota?

The theme of the Avalon is combining a flowing and elegant cabin with a stable and stretched body design.  The front creates a new bold face with a strong chopped rear end for aero performance.

The first advanced model was completed in 2007.  This was shown in Japan at Toyota Headquarters and received positive feedback.  It was then developed further into a second advanced model.
